1. Introduction

Genbalog (the App) is an iOS and Android application designed to help field workers and independent contractors streamline their reporting workflow. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.

2. Information collected

The App processes the following information on-device only — no data is sent to external servers: photos and image data (stored on-device only); captions and annotations attached to photos; project name, work type, and section information; location data when taking photos (only if the user grants permission); app settings such as language.

3. How information is used

Collected information is used solely for generating and displaying PDF reports. The App works offline and all features are available without an internet connection.

4. Third-party disclosure

The App does not sell, provide, or disclose user data to third parties, except: when the user shares or exports a PDF themselves (by the user's own action); or when disclosure is required by law.

5. Location information

The App can record latitude and longitude when taking photos. Location access requires the user's prior permission. Location data is used only for inclusion in PDF reports and is never sent to external servers.

iOS: You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Android: Recording coordinates also requires the device location permission on Android. You can still take photos and produce reports without granting it (the coordinate field is left empty). Revoke the permission at any time under Settings → Apps → Genbalog → Permissions.

6. Camera and photo library access

iOS: The App requests access to the camera and photo library to take photos and import images. Photo data is stored only in the device's SwiftData database and is never sent externally.

Android: The Android version requests the camera permission only. Images are imported through the Android photo picker, so it never asks for permission to read your whole photo library — only the picture you pick is handed to the App. The image files are kept in the app's private storage (not readable by other apps) and the records — project name, captions, coordinates — in a local database (Room). Neither is ever sent externally.

7. Voice recognition

iOS: The Pro version provides voice caption input. Voice recognition uses Apple's Speech Framework and is subject to Apple's privacy policy. Voice data may be processed on Apple's servers.

Android: The Pro version on Android also provides voice caption input, but the App itself never records audio. Recording and recognition are performed by the speech recognition app installed on the device, and the App receives only the resulting text. The App therefore does not request the microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO). Handling of the audio is governed by the privacy policy of that speech recognition app's provider. On devices with no speech recognition app the feature is unavailable.

8. Subscription and billing

iOS: All billing is handled via Apple's App Store. The App does not collect or store payment information such as credit card details. Billing privacy is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Android: All billing is handled via Google Play Billing. The App does not collect or store payment information such as credit card details. Billing privacy is governed by Google's privacy policy.

9. Data storage and deletion

All user data is stored on-device only. Deleting the app removes all data from the device.

iOS: Cloud backup follows iCloud backup settings.

Android: Android cloud backup (to Google Drive) and device-to-device transfer are both disabled by the app. No copy is left outside the device.

10. Children's privacy

The App is intended for business use and is not designed for use by children under 13.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may change without prior notice. Important changes will be communicated in app update notes. The latest policy is posted on this page.

Controller, contact and your rights

This app is provided by freetokyo, an independent developer, who acts as the data controller. For any question about this policy or about personal data, contact freetokyo2020@yahoo.co.jp. We normally reply within five business days.

If you are in the EU, the EEA or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your personal data, to withdraw consent and to object to processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know, delete and correct the personal information collected about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information.

Where this app stores data only on your device, we have no access to it, so most of these rights are exercised directly on the device: delete or export inside the app, or delete the app. We will still answer any request you send us.

Retention: on-device data is kept until you delete it or remove the app. Support emails are deleted 24 months after the request is closed.
